Link Wray has passed.
Anyone know about his gear?
Seems I read somewhere he used Teisco and other crap guitars.

Any idea on his amp choices, and did he slash his speakers for more distortion?
Anyway, he leaves behind cool tunes.

talk about leaving a legacy though, everyone in a rock band owes a little something to him.

Yeah, he used cheap, crappy equipment (from the 50's though), and poked a pen through his speakers for distortion. Of course the first major record release with intended distortion, and he had a chorus effect by the early 60s, A true god. He was also one of the first major artists to have I forget why though. Only had one lung.

I always say, if you want to hear what rock n roll REALLYsounds like, there are just two places to go: Chuck Berry and Link Wray.

I seem to recall that he lost one of his lungs due to an infection he picked up while serving in the Army.

He *did* lose one of his lungs, and he toured anyway. I saw him like three years ago. He had a great sound (cranked Marshall I think) , a young beautiful wife, and he made these indie art bands look like a bunch of poseurs - seriously, a great show. RIP, Link!

Yeah, she kept coming on stage and wagging his pony tail. I saw him a few years a ago, he was totally deaf, but kept yelling "rock 'n' roll!"despite. I stole his can of coke from beside the monitor.

One of his best tracks was "AIn't That Lovin' You Baby," a cover of a Jimmie Rogers tune. His one-lunged voice was total advantage on it. He lost his lung to tuberculosis.

Sundazed records has done some great LP reissues lately.

His "Ain't That Lovin You Baby" is great. He sounds so evil and depraved in it.

I got to see him a couple of years ago too, I'm glad I did. He played a strat CRANKED through an Orange head and Marshall 4x12 cab. He was so fucking loud. He must've played "Rumble" at least 3 times, all while wandering around onstage grinning like a kid who got away with something.

I haven't heard Link's version. I have one of the sundazed isses. Link was awesome awesome awesome. Good band, too.
