my vacation project is to remodel my studio. i'm running out of floor space quick. and i was thinking it might be cool to do some sort of 'wall of guitars' thing. does anyone have any suggestions on how i might go about this? _________________ www.ivorylodge.net

I've been using these... Uh... "Hercules" I think they're called...
They "lock" at the neck under the instrument's weight so they can't get bumped off. Also an available "pitch" of about 10 degrees for weird headstocks. Very durable also. _________________ John Scrip - MASSIVE Mastering |

here's my "wall of rock" simple little Y shaped brackets are covered in a nerf-like material and cost about $2 each at Lowes. They fit a guitar perfectly

I liked that guitar, sadly all of those guitars are long gone except the 81 les paul and the desert yellow Ibanez
I rotate through guitars like mad _________________ Dave Johnson

YOu sold the Iceman and kept the monkey grip I-been-had?
I kid I kid!
Alisa,
There's a produce called String Swing. They are like the photo, but they hhave a wood base and come with nice wall anchors. I've got three of them and I need to buy a bunch more. I'm thinking of just putting lots of them up so client guitars can be hung as well. Once I set up 8 amps, a few mics, pedal boards etc, the floor space gets eaten up quickly! _________________ Tony

Sometimes we get lucky and find the instrument that just speaks to us. _________________ Tony

this is a dumb question, but i'm mechanically disinclined. so do you have to stick those hooks into a stud? how do you figure that out?
but yeah. the yellow. would have matched the old board nicely. _________________ www.ivorylodge.net

yeah you need to hit a stud. you can use a magnet to find a sheet rock screw, or a "stud finder" (which is a magnet with an led attached to it) or measure from a corner. Generally studs are 16" apart, so you might get lucky
My new les paul is TOMB yellow too _________________ Dave Johnson

The ones from Lowes, yes, because the screw part is so big (if they're the ones I'm thinking of).
For the string swing types, I'd say aim for a stud, but if you miss just use the wall anchors. As drumsound pointed out, they're included with the hook. I've hung things heavier than a guitar with good anchors. |

Another option if 16" spacing isn't quite right, would be to get a nice long 1x4 to put along the whole side of the wall and nail that into the studs. Then put the Lowes screw hooks into that. You can pre paint/stain/sprinkle with gltter that piece of wood before putting it up. Also, I'd pre-drill the holes for the hooks in that case to avoid wood splits.
