temporary recording space in Washington DC area?

temporary recording space in Washington DC area?

Post by darjama » Thu Nov 03, 2005 12:58 pm

hey, my band is looking to do our next batch of songs somewhere besides our tin shack rehearsal space. Anyone know of a nice sounding room--I'm thinking a church or small perfomance hall--that can be rented without too much cash?

I know there are some good studios in the area, but we're trying to save $ for mixing/mastering

on a side note, it would be cool to do a DC Tape Op night. I know I've seen a few of people on the message board from the area, who's interested in a get together?

I'm definitely interested... I know other DC tapeopers who probably would be, too...

I can attest to Kyles room sounding very good. Stuff we did there sounded nice and natural, not to mention his setup is sweet.

PS. The DC tapeop thing sounds like a good idea.

I think you're on the right track. Some years ago, some friends of mine recorded in a music room at a private school. They were originally planning to use the auditorium, but ended up liking the tighter sound of the choir room instead. I don't have any idea what it cost, but it couldn't have been too much. These guys were pretty much in a no-budget situation.

I have also known several other people that have used public school facilities for a variety of private functions. Offer to donate some music books, unused gear, or a used instrument to the music department. Put on a benefit concert that could be recorded live. Offer to record student performances. That might get you a long term deal.

It's an idea I've had for a while, but have yet to do anything with it.

over the river, standing at the crossroads, but the circus won't be coming back..

If you ever need an extra hand with a few nice mikes, and some decent pre's, gimme a shout.

I'd gladly trade everything I have now for a nice sounding room and a bucket of 57's

A buddy of mine told me about one up 14th St, near to the MD line... I'll try and get the info from him. Other than that... I only know my living room.

Add me to the list of those interested in a meet-up. I'm up near Greenbelt.

DCAC in Adams Morgan can be rented out for shows. Probably
can be used for recording, guessing at night. I have a pretty
live sounding room (hardwood floors, brick wall on 1 side, 10' ceilings)
already snaked up to a control room. You can just bring your equipment
and use our cables and some outboard preamps if you like.

I also enjoy drinking and talking gear.
