Best albums of 2005?
OK, it's Christmastime which menas I pick one or two albums to buy for all my family and friends. This could be the first year in many that I cannot think of a single super duper strong album to give out. What the hell were the best albums this year?

Unless I'm forgetting something, 2005 wasn't that great of a year for me when it came to new albums. Beck's Guero was cool, but not great. The last great new album I've heard was by Earlimart, but that was 2004. Frusciante did some cool stuff this year (or was that last year, too?).
I haven't bought it yet, but I did like Sigur Ros' Takk and the one put out by Elvis Costello was pretty good, too.
Oh, and I finally got a copy of inverseroom's 100 song album. Give that to all of your family and friends. Best bargain in the music biz. Only $0.20 per song.

Kanye West 'Late Registration'
Common 'Be'
Two very different albums produced by Kanye, to very different effect.
Jon Brion's arrangement work on 'Late Registration' is awesome. The songs are there on both albums.
Also dig the most recent Spoon album, the title of which escapes me (its a creeper).
Check Damien Marley's 'Welcome to Jamrock' for its apocalyptic title track; stay for the variety of reggae, dancehall, and genre-mixing.

Pixel revolt
John Vanderslice's Pixel Revolt is my favorite recording of the year by a long, long ways. I have been listening nonstop since it came out and I still crave it at least every other day.
