The tune recorded with one mic that got signed to a major!

Post by Brian » Wed Dec 21, 2005 7:09 am

You know how I blow my beat up horn that a song I recorded got signed and was recorded on a Tascam M108 with one microphone, a Beyer M-500 Ribbon?
Well here it is 1988 is back. Testimony to "the song is king, not the recording" ha ha.

Here is that song I've touted and blown my beat up horn about that proves the song is the star. Welcome to the eighties. Guess who was playing. Every label on earth kept saying in their solicitations "a band with influences like ------- -----".
Can you remember who or guess?

It's supposed to sound like Night Ranger, right?

Great guesses, NOT! ha ha.
jeez, and I put the right amount of dashes. One more try?
OK, it was "Maggies Dream", and three of the guy's on this were in Maggies Dream.
Who's Maggies Dream? Lenny Kravitz' band before his solo career.
Vance Garcia = Bass, Frank Ballard= Drums and Val= Guitar and writer.

I do appreciate the sound of the song, especially when I control for the 1988 aesthetics. You were using a ribbon way before they were trendy (or way after, depending on how you measure). 1988 was a good year: Dirty Dancing, the Yellowstone fires, the huge nationwide drought; what's not to like? Do you have a photo of yourself from that time period? I am imagining some big teased hair.

I like how around 2:00 the singer starts to do the "ooh yeah" from Ziggy Stardust and then corrects himself to do "ooo^ooo^oooh yeah".

Hair yes, teased, no. Still have hair. Still not teased.
