Our JLM14 input transformer is 1:4 ratio and the 1290 needs 1:2. So two transformers are used with the two primaries wired in series and the two secondaries in parallel to make 1:2 and also to increase the transformers headroom to be closer to the original 10468.
The two transformers wired this way give a very close square wave response to the 10468 as shown in red here http://www.jlmaudio.com/Neve%20transformer%20info.htm

hiya tactics

aaah the city of churches and sex-murders, yeah?

no - i shouldn't tease.

i gotta be fitting up some more preamps - need heaps of gain for my ribbons.

rude question, but how much did the final build set you back? i been thinking of doing a few green pre's, but joe's stuff is sooo highly considered by others on the boards. why have the hassle of sourcing everything when i can buy a kit which is known to be good?

i mean, two trannies per channel just HAS to taste great and stay crunchy, huh?

cheers!

Yeah it's quite disturbing if you think about it too much.

Total cost for everything was $1430AU inc GST and delivery. But you can just buy certain parts also.Good value when you consider the effort that goes into putting a kit like this together.I'm reaching for this first all the time now.A compressor kit would be cool.Hint Hint.

if a compressor kit would make your nostrils flare, i personally recommend you try the mnats 1176.

he is an aussie too - the pcb's are $20 a set. check out "black market" at the prodigy boards.

it is a better build than the what? - less options, more straightforward.

i have done a pair of 1176's, a gssl, and a pair of what? opto's.

just about to start another pair of 1176's.

all the best!

using OEP input trannie ($46), no output trannie, a torroidal power transformer ($50), metal 2ru case from jaycar ($65) and $20 meter from altronics (jaycar have cheapie VU's now too), jaycar knobbage ~$20

came in at about $290 per unit.

do the sums - two in a shared case with shared power supply works out at only the cost of an extra VU and input trannie (and knobs).
buy enough basic components to ensure you can stuff a capacitor or step on a fet and still be able to finish.

PLUS LABOUR (my first pair was built in three days and my wife just about killed me, as did my back, eyes and finger-tips)

i found building two side by side made it easier - referance from one to the other, learn as you go. blah blah blah.

can i just get through christmas first? then once i can walk again i'll nip in and whip the lid off.

its all a bit commando as i changed from two 2RU mono units to a single 2RU dual mono (?!)

still, a lot to be said for waving it in the breeze.

chris.

p.s. i think the boards are actually $26 - didn't want to cause trouble, ya'll
