Drum Recording/Micing Technique Extravaganza?
It seems that 2 out of every 3 topics in recording techniques deals with recording drums in one aspect or another. I think most people will agree that there is an art to recording a live drumset well and that is something I think most people, including myself, struggle with doing well on a consisten basis..
So what about a drum recording extravaganze workshop? Maybe a continuing thing across the two days or one day dealing with things like:
Drum recording with minimal mics
Drum recording with multiple mics
Recording rock drums
Recording Jazz trio or ensemble drums
Recording in large rooms
Recording in bedrooms
Recording the guy who bashes the cymbals and barely hits the toms
For instance many people record in crappy small rooms and close mic everything to take the room out of the equation. Then they have 10 mics, all in questionable relations of phase. It seems most of the time that is worse than throwing up three mics and going for it?
Just some suggestions, please throw any ideas out you may have. I know in the past (which unfortunately I haven't been able to attend) there is always a band recording, and I think recording the drums in a band context is good, but I think this subject could really use it's own emphasis.

[Asked whether his shades are prescription or just to look cool]
Guy: Well, I am the drummer.
