I do this often.

Sampled chunks of "played" drums almost always sound better than the same phrase MIDI-sequenced, regardless of whether the source was mic'ed or line-in'd. Also only eats one MIDI message, making PPQN timing issues more or less nonexistant.

My favorite thing to do is play a chunk of track, find the cool phrases and then chunk'em together so that they form a semblance of a whole.
