I travelled the country with circuses for about 7 years. Travelling and having a job is the way to go. You've got an in with the locals, an income, a safe place to stay, and as much adventure as you care to take on.

Some of these shows travelled every day, not as good for really seeing towns, but some go every few days-much better.

Carnivals aren't really the same bag. They usually don't cover as much ground, alot more work, townies aren't very trusting, and frankly, they're shady.

Working with bands, big travelling shows (Ice Capades, Ringling Bros., SpongeBob Live, etc), will usually only get you into cities, the small towns is where this land shines.
