Um, maybe Neumann?
If they are current model U-87Ai mics then they will service them, but they are trying to do less of their older products to keep the service area clear for current customers. I'm not sure what the cut-off date is for 87s.
If not them, you might check out Gefell which will service all old & current Neumanns, or call up Tracy Korby at www.korbyaudio.com

yeah these are 70's or early 80s 87s... i think mr korby is a good idea - he's got good pedigree but is not klaus heyne level legendary (yet)....

any other recommends?

Well, I guess you could call Klaus.

But Tracy did a real nice job on my U-67s and on my little RCA 74b.
I'd shop there again.

I'm not sure that Korby's doing much repair work any more. A few people I know who have either sent him stuff recently or called him about it and have given me that impression. He does do excellent work, though.

I've heard MANY 70s and early 80s U87s simply gone-through and cleaned up by Gotham Audio that have come back quickly and sounded just fine.

I think Klaus or Korby would be a good Idea. Both do excellent work. I would not send it back to Neumann because if something is wrong with the capsule they would put a new one in and the mic would not sound as good. Whereas Klaus or Korby could get it back to spec.

We are planning on sending 2 of our 4 AKG C12s to Klaus soon. He did an amazing job on modifying a U67 for us. Totally happy.
