Now that I have a pair of GME's and a single EQ-20, I am considering the SME-20's as well. Somewhere a long time ago, I read ( I think John N said ) that the SME were Shelf Eq's. I was hopping to get a clearification on this, and maybe a comparison to the GME's. I also think the SME have 3 bands, looking at the picture I found on the web.
Thanks!
If anyone has a line on a Eq-20, or a pair of GME or SME EQ's, look me up!
Joe
Melcor SME-20 EQ's? John?
The Melcor SME-20 is a very unique shelving EQ.
The HF shelf (top knob) is 10khz boost or cut.
The LF shelf (bottom knob) is 30 hz boost or cut
The High-Mid shelf is 5khz boost only
The Low-Mid shelf is 100 hz boost only
The Mid controls are on a concentric knob. The inner knob turns CW to boost the hi-mids. The outer knob turns CCW to boost the low mids.
We have a pair of them. I have never seen another one anywhere, so I guess they're pretty rare. I really like them on vocals and acoustic guitar. I've often heard people describe certain EQs as sounding "sweet". I would describe these Melcors as "salty".
