Proximity of Speakers to Tape Decks

Post by jrsgodfrey » Tue Feb 14, 2006 6:31 pm

In correspondence w/ a fellow T'opper, this question came up.

How much can speaker magnets affect tape heads? I would think the effect would be negligible unless the speaker were extremely close to the heads.

Any practical advice?

Thanks,

Jay

Proximity of Tape To Speakers

Bump from fellow T-opper in question

We all know that unshielded monitors will cause intererence in CRT monitors. My question is what is a reasonable distance to store tape away from these monitors? Obviously there is a pretty good electric field coming out of the speakers to disturb the CRT. At what distance would it be safe to store tape to avoid erasure?

i had my amp sitting like six inches away from a shelf with tapes on it, and the guy i work for came in and was like "...you should probably move that further away." so i'm guessing like a couple of feet is the minimum. definitely don't have your monitors crammed right next to your machine or next to your tapes.
