Rickenbacker Guitar Amps...Anybody???

Post by OneZero » Fri Feb 24, 2006 2:38 pm

HI Everyone. I just scored a Rickenbacker ROAD Amp (R-14 25 watts) this morning from Craigslist.

I am wondering if anybody knows anything about these, have had any experience, know of any players that have used them. I guess Stephan Wolf endorsed them for a while, but that is all I can find out.

Does anyone know about ROAD? Is this a company that builds them and Ricky puts their name on 'em?

Here is a pict.

It seems pretty neat. It has got a reverb knob and a DISTORTION knob. Solid State. Made sometime in the 70s. Kinda crazy. I haven't had a chance to really play with it, as I just picked it up this morning. I'll let you know after I've spent some time with it. Oh. And not to be some kind of DICK, but I only paid $85!!!!

So Yea! I have had a little time now with this amp.

Being solid state I was a little weary, but GODAMM! the sound is jaw-dropping amazing. Amazing in that late 70's tranistor hesh-rawk way. Think .38 special, Sabbath (with Dio), Tom Scholz(sp??) and maybe a little Tommy Shaw (Styx).

This thing is true quality. Built like a tank. Great Reverb ( worth the $85 dollars alone). Weird Distortion. But very useable.

Not very loud. It says 24 watts, but compared to my 6 watt Gibson Skylark and my 15 watt Fender Champ, it can't even come close. The tone is superb when the volume is at around 4.

I'm really looking forward to recording sounds.

seaneldon; Thanks for the Rick link. Thats exactly what I was looking for.
