Remedial Gretsch drum/hardware questions

Post by honkyjonk » Tue Feb 28, 2006 4:32 pm

Well, I just wanted to ask a couple questions of the drum people.

I just got a couple stop sign Gretsch toms. This is the 15":

This floor tom is meant to attatch to a cymbal stand right? This may sound like a pretty ignorant question, but I really don't know. It just has that one mount, so it's obvious it doesn't have legs. Do people usually put these on a cymbal stand? Or should it have it's own stand?

My second question is this:

What do you guys reccomend I do with a 13" stop sign tom that has Gretsch hardware, and a Gretsch kick drum with a Pearl tom mount? I'd kind of like to leave the Pearl mount on the kick, because it's a nice job, it's a tough ass piece of hardware, and I don't want to make any more holes. Is there some kind of tom arm that will adapt?

Any info is much appreciated.

Throw that rack tom on a snare stand, adjust placement to taste. It's nice to not have it vibrating and resonating in the kick everytime you hit it.

Or clamp it to a cymbal stand so you can put it wherever you want over the bass drum. With either of these solutions, youo get reduced sympathetic vibrations from the bass drum.

And yes, you can clamp the floor tom to a cymbal stand if you want.
