Where are the 2108's?

Post by earth tones » Sun Mar 05, 2006 8:38 pm

Is it possible to purchase a new UA 2108 pre anywhere in the USA, that anybody here knows. I have only been able to find units on Ebay, which mainly seem to be located in the UK. I was very close to purchasing one of these back when UA discontinued them, and they seemed to instantaneously disappear.

maybe people are just hanging on to them more...i know i wouldn't sell mine, ESPECIALLY now that they're out of production...you should try websites like vintage king and sonic circus...maybe they have some in inventory..

I have one and could be talked into parting with it, but only for a ridiculously hyper-inflated price. It's really a shame that UA stopped making them.

Is the Hamptone JFET the worthy successor to the 2108?

Even if UA still made the 2108 I would never sell mine. Love em' on drums and electric guitars and well, everything, and I would buy a third one without thinking twice. They get used more than any other pre that I have (TG-2, Tab V78, Tele V676a). They should fetch no more than $1200 used since they only sold for about $1450 if I recall. Some guys might bend you over since they are not being made anymore, but just be patient and I bet you can find one used for about $1100. Anything over $1300 for a used one would be ridiculous and I would tell them to put down that crack pipe.
I know enough to know that I don't know what I am doing.
