Good surge suppressor that doesn't do anything else?

Post by honkyjonk » Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:00 am

Can someone reccomend a good surge suppressor that doesn't do anything but protect my gear?

I'm not looking for line conditioning or voltage regulation. Just a good surge supressor.
Is there anything that's a real good bang for the buck out there?

Something heavy duty.

???

I love my APC 350. $43 at Staples. Great buy.

You want something that meets UL 1449, has a supressed voltage rating of 400V or less, and can dissapate 600 or more joules.

I use a Belkin/Stanley STS164 that sells for about $10.

www.brickwall.com - safe, but not that cheap.

www.surgex.com - same idea, still not that cheap.

I'd also highly recommend you look closely at Brickwall, as mentioned by an earlier post. It's pretty high grade stuff...pretty much "the shit" in the surge protection arena. They use a technology much more advanced than the standard MOV based surge protection you'll find on generic stuff. As such, if their stuff works as advertised, it should not limit current or color the sound.
