speakers for really really small studio

Post by strangefruit » Mon Mar 06, 2006 9:24 am

I am about to quit using headphone as monitors. I have an old Pioneer amp from the 80's and I don't have a mixer.
What's the best solution?

Tannoy reveal 300.00$ for a pair really good for a budget and if you already have a amp why not use it?

I saw on ebay some used Yamaha NS-10 for like 150$. Do they work well in small rooms?

What's the reputation of Alesis MKII? Are they made in China?

NS-10s for 150 on Ebay? Are you sure that was the completed auction price? They tend to go for three times as much. If you can get a pair for 150 buy them. Then repost them with nice pics on Ebay. You'll make enough money to have someone else buy your monitors.

It seems like you are striving for the best bang for the buck. Do you have a used Hi-Fi shop nearby? If so, check out some used high end book shelf speakers: Mission, B&W, lots of choices for less than 300.

Any near-field monitor will work well in a small room.

Tanny also has some small studio monitors for $200/pair called "Proto-J" - You can get them at Sweetwater. I like mine a lot, but it's good to give them a solid power amp.
