Effectron curse!

Post by curtiswyant » Mon Jan 23, 2006 8:39 am

I've bought 2 Effectron's from ebay and something bad happened with each! The first one, bought about two months ago, I never received but did get a refund back from Paypal :?
The second one I bought about two weeks ago and, when I got it, could not get any delay signal, just dry. I've had a working effectron before so I knew how to set it up, but I'll be damned it didn't work so I sent it back for ANOTHER refund. Third time's the charm eh??

Wow. Man, that's a bummer. All four of mine work fine. I guess I'd better knock on something wood...

I don't even know how difficult they are to repair. Anybody ever worked on one?

mine died last year after being carried around unracked in a road case ... my own stupid fault. got knocked around, the PCB cracked, and my repair guy said it wasn't worth fixing. broke my heart.

on the hunt for another one. Chris, are you selling one on eBay right now?
get up with it

No, I'm not selling any of mine right now. Just for fun, I looked at them on ebay the other day and there were a bunch of IIs on there. There was also a 315, which is a sort of useful box for making a mono signal stereo or creating a single slap.

Love the effectrons. Use them all the time. I have two II's and a "Jr" which is quite cool as well. I have been looking for a few of the shorter slap boxes as well. I want to make one xformer I/O... I have decided that I would just put a blank panel in my FX rack with some choices of I/O xformers so I can patch through them, rather than dedicate an xformer to each box like this... that means I can even throw the SPX90 outputs through some lundahls.....

I have just one effectron II and I love it.
I think I paid $30 for it.
I'm almost afraid to see what they're going for on ebay these days.

i have a Jr., got it in a trade deal. it's pretty cool.
the guy who also works in a repair place here and said they call
them "Deffectrons" because of how many they see in for repair.

they also call Ibenez stuff "I-been-had's"

ha.

I had the same problem with mine when I got it. All dry no delay. I have no idea what was wrong but it was a cheap and quick fix. It cost me about $25/$30 and I had it back in a few days.

wish I'd noted the auction number. someone was selling one, allegedly, and got their description wholesale (including "just pulled out of a studio in Charlotte") from your website, which I'd remembered seeing in an Effectron web search before.

fuckin' eBay scammers. glad I didn't bid on that one.
get up with it

Interesting. There were an awful lot of them around here when I was growing up and many studios around here still have at least one in the rack. It's not impossible that it was someone selling one from around here. Mine came out of the old Audio Inc. studio and if I recall correctly from my childhood, it was the only one they had, so if it said it was from Audio Inc. then they were most definietly lying.
