So the word as of now is that this 109th Congress is not going to have time to get into acting on indecency in broadcasting AND settle this payola issue. Because of the religious leanings, all they are going to deal with is the indecency. They have relegated the payola issue to the 110th Congress. This could bode very well for the people. With a Republican majority right now everywhere in Washington, D.C., little would get done to fix this if this came up right now. There will likely be a landslide Democratic victory in November to take back the House and Senate as idiot boy and knucklehead continue to destroy America.

Already, the new Republican head of the NAB is already moving full-on as Michael Powell did wanting to deregulate Television and Newspaper ownership just like they did radio. Obviously radio deregulation didn't work. In Bush's first term, 4 times the courts asked then head of the FCC, Michael Powell to justify the FCCs suggested further deregulation of TV and Newspapers and were met with silence, there was no justification to do so, just the voice of their lobby and #2 contributor to the Presidential campaign of 2000. So the thin veil shows this is clearly just another corporate plea from the Republican side.

It's been the Democratic commissioners, Adelstein and Copps that have flown all over the country to hold townhall style meetings with the general public on the radio ownership issue while all 3 Republican commissioners have stayed in Washington, D.C. This behaviour says much of what we can expect if the Republicans looked at this.

I don't want to sound partisan here, but this is strictly a partisan division and it really shouldn't be. Also, I'd suggest writing your local Congressman and Senator to let them know not to confirm the newest Bush nomination, McDowell, for the vacant FCC seat- as this person will solidify yet another Republican majority at the FCC. We do not need that in the least as their track record shows.
