Soundproofing an apt
Soundproofing an apt
I live in an apartment and need to do some cheap temporary sound proofing that won't damage the walls. Any sugestions? I tried searching the forum and didn't come up with much.

I don't think anything cheap or non invasive will soundproof your apt..
soundproofing comes from dense materials like lead and other specialty acoustic barriers along with mechanical isolation between your walls ceiling and floor and the walls ceiling and floor you build inside the ones already there..
just the freight costs alone on the lead/blocking material are enough to give one a mild heart attack..

"Sound-proofing" which most of us interpret as preventing sound in one space from reaching another, like leaking out of your apartment and bothering the neighbors, is something that can really only be done through construction. The walls, floors, ceilings and windows really need to be built with that concept in mind.
"Acoustic treatment" which is just controling the sound of the room where you are working with materials that absorb and diffuse sound reflected within your space is something you can accomplish with temporary treatments layered on top of the existing walls of your own apartment. Foam, fiberglass and other materials for absorbing, specially shaped wood or plastic panels for diffusing, and sometimes creative choices for placement of bookshelves, couches, etcetera can help you treat the acoustics within your space, but won't do much for the neighbors.

I don't know if that would work for what i need because I want to jam with others, but i guess I could run through a mixer and jam through a headphone mix, which might be kind of weird but do-able. I Might be interested in computer solutions, but I don't have a computer right now and can't really afford one.
