"The Hero"

Post by eeldip » Tue May 20, 2003 11:28 am

so i am watching this movie
http://nowrunning.com/comingsoon/TheHero/TheHero.asp
at the Naz8 theater in sunny freemont, CA. eating $2.50 samosas.

and there is a scene where the hero of the film patches into the security system of this building, which consists of 10 TV monitors, a computer, and a 24X8 analog audio mixing board.

he uses his palm pilot to knock out some of the monitors, and the security guard is frentically pushing the mutes, and playing with the channel faders. no luck, doesnt fix the security system. then a tech comes in, unplugs one of the color coded mic cables from the board, looks at the male XLR end and says, "this will take 1/2 hour to fix". then he plugs a 1/4" jack into the same channel of the mixing board.

i was just cracking up, thinking of the security guard turning up the snare track to try to fix a remote camera. my AE friend who was with me thought it was hilarious as well. but we were the only ones. we figured they had a protools system lying around or something and figured no one would notice if they used it as a prop.

just wanted to share.

great movie by the way. especially if you hate pakistan. ("make one mistake and you are human, make two mistakes and you are satan, make three mistakes and you are pakistani!")

"I can bypass this security system by boosting 3dB @ 1.5k"

"Uh, oh... this is a really tough system.... I need a LA-2A to bypass these interlocks"

hollywood/bollywood is supposed to be pretty good. the people i went with saw that a few weeks before hand. although i stand behind the hero, come on: it is "The costliest movie ever made in India - costlier than Devdas!!".

the indian food at the theater is the best indian food i have ever eaten in a theater, and probably the best food i have purchased at a movie theater. but not quite as good as restaurant food. there is a place called the chaat cafe that is a quick 10 minute walk from the theater (in a strip mall next to a starbucks) that is nan and curry good. the whole experience is pretty good: 1 hour bart ride, 3 hour movie, 1 hour eating great indian food, 1 hour bart ride home. its a workday worth of fun.

pretty different though, more southern indian food.

by the way i really love the tenderloin nan and curry. actually that whole area has pretty amazing food. that new place chutney is good too. i love that intersection: it is turning into that street in manhattan... what is that 9th street or something... with all the indian places? from one point you can now see: shalimar gardens, nan and curry, shalimar, pakwan, chutney, and new dehli cafe. i like them all.

this by the way is classic Freemont California:

"3000 seats ? 5000 parking spots"

so more than half the people at the theater can bring more than one car each!

Where's Nan & Curry in the TL? I could use the occasional break from Tu Lan ...
