Just purchased a Genex GX9000 recorder and filled both drive bays with Seagate Cheetah 15k rpm drives. Being able to record two copies of a location recording was too good to pass up. But that leaves me without any way to produce a removable copy on tape or disk. The onboard mixer output will allow for CD or DAT copies of a 2 track mix, but if I want to copy all eight tracks, I'll need to add an external drive. The two internal bays are SCSI only, but there are a couple of external drive ports that can be fed via Firewire or SCSI.
If this was a 24 or 48 channel recorder, a DLT or AIT tape drive would be required. But it only has 8 channels and that makes AES31 format DVDs a workable situation. But I'm totally confused about DVD-RW vs DVD+RW and which one is appropriate for burning AES31 file copy backups? Any suggestions for a DVD drive that would work well for file backups in this situation?
thanks.
