LoHo is open for business - NYC

Post by mwerden » Fri May 22, 2009 3:47 pm

Hi everyone, my name is Matt and I've been mostly lurking here for a few years. I've been working as the staff engineer at Blue Man Group's production studio during that time. I haven't really been involved much with the outside recording community, but hopefully that is about to change.

Some of you NYC folks might remember a studio called LoHo that disappeared about a year ago. According to Wikipedia, "Loho Studios closed and the facilities were sold to The Blue Man Group who now use the space for rehearsals, recordings and auditions." Blue Man has kept the studio for private use only, but we are booking outside sessions starting immediately. Most of the gear from the LoHo days is still here, plus a bunch of other pieces that Blue Man has collected over the years. The room sounds phenomenal and there are three iso booths, so very large sessions are perfectly reasonable here. We also have a pretty good collection of guitar and bass amplifiers.

In addition to the gear we have an in house tech available for instrument and amplifier setups and repairs at very reasonable prices. We also have a very large network of singers and instrumentalists available. Here is our somewhat complete gear list:

sounds like a nice place and a good engineering job. nice console with a bunch of nice mics and outboard gear. what more can you ask for? Like to see some pics for sure.

question:
Does the Blue Man Group practice or record covered in blue paint too?

and why don't you list "Massive PVC Pipe Collection" under gear?

i know...it's not funny.

The Blue Men don't wear paint, they're just naturally blue. The PVC pipes are held in an undisclosed, underground bunker, hence they are not on the gear list.

Seriously though, the gig has been pretty good to me. I've learned quite a bit over the last few years and I've gotten to do some great work with some great people. But times are rough and I have to get this room booked before I end up in a ditch with all the securities traders.

I'll take some better ones and post them next week.

If you ever need an assistant engineer, I'd love to help.
I'd like to change your mind by hitting it with a rock.

Hi Scott. I'll try to keep you in mind, but I already have some very capable people available. Check in with me from time to time, hopefully we can get the room booked and there will be some opportunities.
