Very cool, I may have to go for that. I just built a pedalboard from IKEA shelving, and that's working out well. I do have some amp heads that need a good home, so this may be a path for me!

This is very cool.

Just remember to use metal shelf clips, the plastic ones just don't cut it...

Greg,

Are you just storing them there in a stylish and aesthetically pleasing way?
I was thinking it would be pretty cool if you could somehow wire the bookcase, so you had a small patchbay or hub of some sort, and you never had to move anything off of the shelf to plug it in. Just run a guitar cable, maybe select a specific cab, and go.

It would be like an amplifier deli case that you could eat out of (too expand the odd metaphor).

GJ

PS-- No, I guess it would be like an amp rack, but, you know what I'm sayin'...

Do you have them attached to the wall? Are they really sturdy enough to hold all those heads? I have some Ikea shelves and I would not use them for that. But maybe I have the wrong ones.

this is merely for opening up the space. they were just stacked in a pile before!
i've got more room now.

normally, i pull an amp head into the control room (this is in the live room).

i've considered the amp rack.....my concern would be ohmage.

they are secured at the top.

it really does feel secure enough.

believe you me, i wouldn't risk all of those amps, if i was even close to concerned.

my only thought would be to potential replace the particle board shelf inserts with wood ones....if these were to start bowing.

If the shelf brackets are just the little metal plugs that go into the particle board sides, I'd be most concerned about this. The particle board shelves themselves should be alright if they're supported. It looks like a great solution, though. It's great that everything seems to fit perfectly! If I was going to do any kind of cheap, piece-of-mind mod, I'd probably bolt some 1x2 strips to the sides, underneath the shelves, and ditch the little pegs altogether.

Cool idea, though. And, I'm sure it was really cheap. I've got plenty of cheap Ikea stuff at my studio. If your clients and guests respect your place, that stuff holds up just fine.

This thread did remind me that I had been planning on finding a good local carpenter who plays in a band. I need some shelves and some road cases. It would definitely be worth trading some studio time for some carpentry time.

they are indeed those little metal brackets.

they feel pretty secure to me.

the 1x2's aren't a bad idea.
i may do that just in case.

Very Happy
