Hi everyone,
I recently acquired an early 60's PYE compressor, type 842678 (/001 serial no 41). It isn't the half rack version most people know, but rather the brick-style unit with a 4:1 ratio instead of the 5:1 ratio. I've posted a photo below.
At any rate, it's been acting up recently, drastically overshooting in 2:1 ratio (knocks off 16dB as soon as the signal goes a breath above the threshold), and I need to get it worked on.
I have a manual for the later "type 5752" units, but I gather that a good deal changed between the two.
Does anyone happen to have a manual for these older units that I could get a scan of??? Or does anyone have familiarity with these units who could offer advice?
The only people I've found who are willing to work on these is the Vintage King Tech Shop, who are only willing to do a full recap and recallibration for an ungodly price.
Thanks folks! Here's a photo:

Well, I finally got my Pye compressor fixed, and wanted to recommend Tracy at Korby Audio, the mic company. They did a phenomenal job going over my unit, finding the things hat were causing problems, even catching things that I hadn't noticed, and even putting LEDs in the VU meter for me -- all for a very fair price and done very quickly. They communicated throughout when there was a choice to be made about a certain type of replacement cap or whatever, and made sure afterwards that the unit arrived safely and worked well. So, two thumbs up for these guys! Highly recommended. It was hard to find a good tech, so I really wanted to pass their name on. It feels like its as difficult, if not more so, than finding a good car mechanic.
Thanks everyone.
