So I have some half-space rack gear that I've stacked in a cubby on my desk.
The problem is it doesn't stay in place, and I'm afeared it might get damaged sliding back off the desk.
I can't really velcro it without removing the rubber feet and also marking up the boxes via the glue.
I suppose I could get some big panduit straps, or just hang a hook to tie the cables ...
Anybody have a good idear for how to stabilize the boxes themselves?
You can kinda see it in the pic:

Do all of them have either screw holes on the sides or screws you could back out a bit, or take out and put back in? You could use a mending plate, or a bit of sheet metal (or plastic, or wood, or watever the fuck) and strap them together on one side. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_ ... te&x=0&y=0
Then, use a 90 degree bracket at the bottom to secure them to your desk.

Also, I bet each of those pieces has an official "mounting kit", but that'd be a spendy way to go and they might not all interface together well.

4 out of the 8 pieces do. I actually did that with wire, before, and might again, altho' it looks a bit funny and is a bit of a pain to undo ...
And yep, you can buy rack trays and shite, but I don't have the space for another rack but do have these cubbies on the desk.
I thought about just building some wood racks to fit in the cubbies but I'd rather be recording! (Taking a break from mixing as I post.)
I have 2 Meeks, a VTB1, a RNC, a Summit, a dbx163X, a MP105 and a ISA 1 to deal with. (The ISA is a 1/2 wide, but 2 spaces tall.)
Probably I'll wire 'em until I see some kinda good shelves I can adjust to 2" tall. There are them cool Ikea things you can find blogged about (see here, here and here, etc.), but then I'd have to attach rack rails to the boxes and buy trays, etc.

I just got one of these and attached 2 of my 3 Rane MS1b's to it (it could realistically have fit 3 side-by-side but I wanted one "loose" to throw in my backpack for when I don't want to lug an entire rack around). It's pretty fantastic - ultra-heavy-duty (I was expecting something much flimsier given the price) and the number and placement of its screw trenches definitely makes it possible to find a way to attach a lot of different kinds of gear to it if you're feeling a little creative.
Don't know if that's useful to you, but it worked well for me.
