Where did everybody go?

Post by Jerry_Pbury » Wed Feb 22, 2012 2:44 pm

This used to be a great place with a lot of great people on here. Gearslutz is packed with people but it's not the same.

It feels like more waning and less waxing for a while now. Maybe everybody's surfing the facetubes. Anyway, it's quieter here, but the signal to noise ratio is still pretty unreal for a messageboard on the interbook.

"waxes and wanes"

I use the GS as a data base when I wanna learn about gear, or at least see what others' opinions are.

I find TOMB much more interesting, and the atmosphere much more professional.

Gearslutz is alright. There's usually at least one person that knows about some gear you are looking for, but there is also a lot of attitude and over the top interweb drama nerd fights which is super irritating to me. TapeOp generally is much friendlier.

Well, where have YOU been, Jerry? HAHA! Maybe ask yourself that question and you'll get an answer.

Seriously, things have slowed down here A LOT in the last few years. It's still uber-friendly and helpful, but it's not nearly as active as it used to be. I guess with all the other distractions that have come along, some of teh old-timers are around here less. Joel Hamilton is globe-trotting and building studios all over Brooklyn, The Professor is writing books, soundguy is up to some REALLY cool stuff, and now that backup times are MUCH smaller than they used to be, I think the rest of us are spending more of our studio loungin time watching youtube or posting on facebook or Twitter or whatever.

It's also sort of awesome that this place was as fast and furious as it was for a few years because there is LOTS of cool stuff in the archives.

It's nice to see some old friends back, though. Seems like a couple of old faces have been popping up lately.

I blame it on the demise of the old General Recording forum.

Trust me-- that's not going to happen, unfortunate as it is.

Agreed.... this forum has slowed down a lot, but it's still my favorite one. :-)

Speaking personally, I was busy with the day job for much of 2011 so I didn't post nearly as often.... Someone has to be the "insulation pimp" LOL.

I guess it is probably Facebook doing most of the damage. I use to be answering replies, and commenting on posts just to keep myself occupied during down times. Now Facebook provides that for most.

I like reading this forum better than 1/2 of what's on facebook, probably because this isn't a place to post about how little you liked the chicken sandwich you ate.
