I tried unscrewing it - no joy.
I'm thinking it might be glued, or there is some sorta internal axial nut-n-bolt ...

My memory (22 years ago) have those things screwing off. No set screw. But wait for someone with a better memory to step up. Also remember using Scope mouthwash as a cleaner. Lots of alcohol and minty fresh.

Aiight, I used a Q-tip to apply nail-polish remover at the middle ring and finally got it open (the gold stripe is the top edge of the bottom windscreen)!
