Best of 2011

So, what was it?

I've been digging Bry Webb's (of The Constantines) record Provider, which came out last month, I think.

Corrupted - Garten der Unbewusstheit
I'd been waiting for this one for years, and it didn't disappoint.

Lulu as the runner-up ...

I'll get around to posting a bunch of things I've been listening to lately/the last several months, many of which are actually from 2011.

At the risk of sounding like a suck-up, I nominate Bunky Moon's "Schtuff We Like."

Nah... I say we should nominate stuff people made right here.

Cheers

When you say "here," do you mean L.A.?

The War On Drugs - Slave Ambient (friends of mine here in Philly, super-dense record, DIY at home, partially recorded and mostly mixed by my bud Jeff Zeigler here in Philly [Kurt Vile])
http://www.avclub.com/articles/the-nati ... -on,65788/
A.A. Bondy - Believers (just caught him live a few weeks back and WOW!)
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Jonathan Wilson - Gentle Spirit (WOW 100% analog recording...http://youtu.be/52lpxVi4SFA)
Meg Baird - Season's on Earth
Wye Oak - Civilian
Real Estate -Days
Alabama Shakes - S/T
Destroyer - Kaputt!

There are still a ton of records from 2010 and 2011 that I need to check out.

OK, after reviewing that I indeed have been listening almost exclusively to all old music this past year (a bunch of Blues, Jazz, R&B, and Rock reissues on mostly vynil and some CD's), my official Top 3 (2-2 & 1/2; 4 that fit in the space of three, whatever) are:

1) Jimmy Cliff "Sacred Fire" EP

2) A Tie-- Bunky Moon "Schtuff We Like," and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings "Soul Time, Vol. I"

3) Yvonne Schmidt "Foolproof" *

* Disclaimer-- I have some personal involvement, but it did chart and it is a great record produced by Grammy-winner Tom Hambridge...

Best record of 2011 for me is Young Widows "In And Out Of Youth And Lightness"

That Wild Flag record is fun too as is Helms Alee's album. And I thoroughly enjoyed that Feist record.
