Anyone digging these recordings from the Barton Hollow record?

A recent SOS article discusses really simplified techniques that are very straight forward but the production still seems to have a polished sound.

The title track even reminds me of some of the best Zeppelin recordings with regard to sound and vibe.

Do you hear a bit of the magic of Simon and Garfunkel's early recordings in there at all?

The bottom end on the acoustic guitar is always so damn rich harmonically without being muddy and never too punchy.

I should dig a little deeper into this band. The couple of songs I heard reminded me of Low with a little more of the south thrown in. I did like the sound, though.

I have a request in to my daughter to loan it to me.

By co-inkydink, I listened to Things We Lost in the Fire just last night.

Guitar is in different tuning. That's most of the tone. I put a ribbon mic 2' away from a guy who was fooling around with Barton Hollow and we were amazed how chewy and detailed it was.

Nice, thanks for posting that.

I'll check it out and have a go at it myself.

Totally love the drum thuds in that tune. Sort of a raucous track IMO.

Just to update this thread with what I thought is interesting info:

And SOS article on recording the recent Civil Wars release the producers say for mandolin and fiddle they used a Cascade Gomez, which I assume is the Michael Joly mic they sell. Nice to see something like that get a little love.
