Hey Guys
I recorded my daughters musical/play recently, and my wife took a bunch of pictures.
The recording turned out surprisingly good (I was running sound one nite, and took some extra channels so I can mix different mic levels to optimal levels).
I would like to make a "movie" out of the 400 or so pictures my wife took, to match each kid's picture to their dialogue and songs (as close as possible) in the Reaper recording I made.
Is this possible in Reaper, or should I use some other software? I've heard people say Sony Vegas is good for Video, would that work well for this type of photography-centric thing?
Thanks in advance,

Hi,
Do you have a Mac, or a PC?
If a Mac, you can use either iMovie, or Final Cut Express.
Put the music into the timeline, and then insert pictures at the right spot, and for the right length duration on the screen.
It really is very simple.

If you're in Windows world, you can use Vegas too. Not as simple/elegant as a Mac
program, not optimized for slide shows. But if you bring your music clip (or whatever audio that you recorded and are using) into the program, you can import your photos in an arrange them the same way.

On Windows, check out Lightworks.
My new love.
Quirky. Powerful. The price is right. The little guy sticking it to Avid.
There's a video tutorial for the "Ken Burns" thing, too. _________________ "What fer?"

Hi Guys
Thanks for the suggestions - I am on a PC at the moment, so I'll check out those Windows options (although I do have an iPad, perhaps I could run iMovie on that).
Another question, if you don't mind - any resources/suggestions for doing this kind of thing? Websites, books, practical advice, etc?
I have no experience doing something like this, but would like to get it done soon as a present for the director (who frankly worked her butt off on the musical, not easy with 60 kids ranging from age 6 to 14). _________________

Also interested in learning about what resources are available...just rediscovering video after close to 20 years away. I got so torqued by an A/B roll system that I've avoided thinking about video since, until recently.
What's the indie video version of Tapeop?
Each of the available software packages will have a forum where people talk about it. Like any forums, the tone and usefulness varies. And each of the packages can do the same kinds of things, but may not do them the same way, or call them by the same name.
I've been hanging out at the Lightworks forum a bit...if you're not raking them over the coals for their over-ambitious Linux plans, they're respectful and helpful.
If you get into Lightworks, watch a bunch of the video tutorials to get to know it. The clip editor looks somewhat like any DAW, but it's got it's own idiosyncrasies. The main concept is that any edit operation can be accomplished by playing the video.
This doesn't sound like a hard project...import the audio, drop it on the audio tracks, then disable them in the editor to prevent further edits. Then select regions, drop the photos in as image keys or mattes, and set up keyframes for the pan/zoom FX. _________________ "What fer?"

+1 to Scum.
Also-- There are a few places for indie-video on the web, but you may want to check-out www.DVXuser.com .
