Last year I removed some large (~8' square), old, deteriorating foam panels that were in my cutting room when I bought the place and replaced them with 4" deep 703 and burlap. As I have continued to slowly redo the place, I now realize that I need to more evenly distribute absorption and diffusion around the room, instead of having what is essentially one huge absorptive surface and a bunch of live ones.

As I rectify this, I would prefer to leave the giant 703 panel in place and cover portions of it to regain reflectivity, rather than to take it down. I would then hang less permanent 703 panels in strategic locations throughout the rest of the room. Does this sound like a bad idea? Thanks in advance for any insight, and I apologize in advance for asinine follow-up questions.

The "create a huge absorbent wall and then cover it with slats of wood with openings between" idea has always appealed to me, but I've never tried it.

I believe that's "the Bunker" studio in Brooklyn. And I believe they did a lot of that there.

That's basically what I'm imagining. I'll look at some of the bunker-related posts and see how the info there applies to what I'm doing. Thanks, Snarl!

Having skimmed the Bunker 2.0 build thread, that looks like a great way for me to go about mitigating the one-sided deadness issue.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Snarl.

Perhaps vertical slats are in order, then...

And they'll make you look thinner. Very Happy

The Bunker is a Rod Gervais design so it's a lot more than just adding some slats over the insulation to be sure Cool

if you just have GIK or Real Trap (or home made) units, you could make some thin panels which clip over them or using elastic etc to keep them snug. use numeric or other patterns (and base it on % of open versus closed) and you'll have some diffusiveness to them as well.

You can't spread your panels around a little better?
