Where did everybody go?
Maybe it's just my systems, but I find myself having to log back in almost every time I visit. This means that many times I glance, but don't contribute, since I have complex passwords. So, maybe the 'log me in automatically' button doesn't actually work for a lot of people, and that's where they are?

No problems with Safari for me here. I always check the box to keep me logged in. It stays until I clear my history or cache. Then I have to log back in again. I don't post as much mainly due to a huge workload and the fact I was finishing my latest solo recording and recording a 2 other long projects since last fall. I also have been too poor to need to research any gear. Trying to get by with what I have and even letting some things I don't use much go and NOT buying anything else with the money. I know, gasp!

I have to log in everytime on pretty much everything EXCEPT my phone. Which totally fucks with me cause that's the one thing I would expect to not work.
Also, just because I just now discovered them after like 10 years on this board:
Mic pattern emoticons, who knew?
I get logged out too most of the time. However, that's not such a big issue for me. I remember my user/pass. If you have a complex system of user/pass, i would suggest looking into 1password. It quite handily handles all your passwords while you just have to remember one master password.
I don't think this really explains the exodus. It would be crazy if that were the only reason that posts have dropped precipitously. I think what Tape Op started has spread pretty thin over the various options out there these days
