Just got a pair of most excellently constructed contact mics in from Cryptic Carousel Records for $16 total (free shipping!).
Can't wait to test these bad boys out and see what fun noises I can capture.
Anybody got some unique, off-the-normal ideas as far as things I could put them on?
Thinking more fun noises and textures than Top 40 Album material here. _________________ "I try to hate all my gear equally at all times to keep the balance of power in my favor." - Brad Sucks

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click where it says "video" to see some kids who brought in different stuff to try with a contact mic:

I am part of an extremely apathetic group that does some ambient black metal. (We probably only get together once or twice a year!) One of the other guys has created some very cool textures by attaching contact mics to metal plates (and other things) and then dragging them across various surfaces (concrete floors, carpet, wooden floors). Just some ideas! _________________ http://www.myspace.com/operationsonocide

How do they sound?

Just last night I finished a session where a guy had a contact mike hooked up to a skateboard deck. We amplified it through a bass amp, distorted it and it sounded huge!
Also long time ago I played a show and a guy named Noiseman337 (or something like that) and he had a contact mike hooked up to some sheet metal and into about 4 or 5 different pedals. It sounded insane. _________________ My musical endeavors!

Potentially stupid question here, but what was he doing with the skate deck to make it make noise? I kinda hope he was actually skating on it... _________________ "I try to hate all my gear equally at all times to keep the balance of power in my favor." - Brad Sucks

ha I wish he was skating it! There weren't any trucks or wheels on the skateboard, just the deck. He was playing it with his hands and some times feet as a percussion instrument. We put it through a big muff and then into an ampeg head and 4x10 cab, scooped the mids and boosted the bass and high mids. It sounded like a kick drum. It didn't sound distorted either just really huge and thick. _________________ My musical endeavors!
