... that I can buy or build that does what the AT8681 does for passive mics, without needing phantom power?
I want to combine two passive snare mics, and have the ability to "pan" between them; a polarity switch would be nice, also.
Of the many I've looked at, some have the switch, but none will "pan".
Or would this be EZ to build?
And if so, doya know where there's plans? _________________ vlayman; THD; blog; TFP |

| I don't really think adding pan would be a difficult modification at all to add to any mic combiner. Really of course you're just looking at a level control that attenuates one input while allowing the other to pass through. |

Exactly!
My idear is the drummer can more easily adjust the relative volumes on the snare, while I'm over by the recording machine.
So, how do I do this? (I'm competent at the assembly, but have no circuit design experience/knowledge.) _________________ vlayman; THD; blog; TFP |

Hi vvv,
Do you have a small console?
That is done easily in that device...

Yes, I have a Mackie 1202 old-school, and a older Alesis 1622.
As well, the R16 has 8 ins (1 bass, 2 kick, 3 snare, 4 fl. tom, 5 ohL, 6 ohR, 7 room or guitar, 8 voc/rm2) , but I want the 9th for snare bottom.
The problem with using even a small console is portability. We use a basement that's also a kid's playroom and so leave nothing but the drum kit in place.
I actually carry all of our recording stuff, including mic's, mounts, (except cables and stands), the recorder, etc. inna file case, and a small duffel for a cuppla little monitors and cans and the hd.phone amp.
The AT unit I mention above is perfect in simplicity, size and application, except that to get the "pan" feature I need to phantom power it, what means I need to carry an outboard ph.pwr. unit as the R16 only has 2 channels powered. (I can and do, BTW use the AT unit un-powered as a straight combiner, without the "pan".)
I'm trya do it as portable as possible, hence my post. _________________ vlayman; THD; blog; TFP |

FWIW, just getting ready to jam, what I carry:
I load, unload, and hump it about 50 yards, one stairway of about 10 steps.
Even a small mixer would make a big difference ... _________________ vlayman; THD; blog; TFP |
