|
|
We're just starting to consider the possibility of hosting regularly-scheduled DAW training courses in one of the studios I'm working out of, as a way to solidify some income and booked time. I've never attended and/or taught one of these before, so I'm curious what your experiences have been? A few questions in particular:
-What have you hoped to learn by attending? Were your expectations met?
-What did you pay? (Or what did you earn to teach)?
-If you've taught a course, what were some things you learned along the way, or frustrations you may have had with the situation?
-If you're a studio owner who has hosted such a course, what did you charge the instructor for the studio time? Or was there another arrangement?
-Is a certified (Pro Tools, Logic, etc...) instructor more marketable to potential students than non-certified?
-Where did you hear about the course? Where are good places to advertise?
-How many classes should one commit to attending to really benefit?
-Finally, who benefits most from these courses: total novices, or those with some DAW experience who are looking to advance their skills?
And any other insights are appreciated, too. _________________ Alex C. McKenzie

I know if you want to teach a Pro Tools class, you should get certification first, to be sure you are "approved" and can charge accordingly.
As to the other DAWs... never seen a "qualifying" class given.

I know they have them for Ableton too, but I have never taken any. A lot of the "DJ Training" programs have classes like these also (Dubspot, Scratch University, etc.).

| I haven't taken any of the classes you mentioned but i have taken 3 courses at Berklee Online in the past year. They are far from cheap but the quality has been excellent. |
