From what I can dig up, this is the studio owned by John Collins and Dave Carswell. I LOVE what they did with Destroyer's Rubies and I just want to find out more about their studio - gear, mics (specifically). I'm hitting a dead end on google, so does anyone know anything about these guys and/or the studio they own/recorded Destroyer's Rubies at?

Thx

After some ninja Googling I found this (I gave up searching through my back issues of EQ).

Edit: Interestingly enough, the issue that this interview is in is currently on my desk in front of me... under a pile of burned CDs and rack screws... I knew I had seen it recently?!

John is great guy and a fantastic engineer. I know he's a fan of Dave Thomas' mic mods (http://www.aamicrophones.com/), and that he has used an AT 4033 and a Shure SM7B on vocals.

Musikman: Interesting article. Esp. the part about the drums in "My Favorite Year." Thx.

GetHim: Good to know. That album is so expertly recorded, I have no doubt John's a fantastic engineer. SM7b. That seems to be a popular vocal mic. Gotta get me one of those. Next month perhaps...

AC/DC's studio albums from 1974's High Voltage through 2000's Stiff Upper Lip and I suggest breaking out your favorite AC/DC album and playing it loud from start to finish.
