Hey shred-- I spent a lot of time at Dust & Grooves last year, but it seemed like they hadn't updated the blog in ages. Are they staying pretty current now?

Brett-- I think I want one. How much extra for a signed test-pressing?

Dunno. but I dig the site. There was some August 2012 fundraiser info on the front page so someone’s tending the fort. Gotta love those roomfuls of stacks.
I’m heading to IKEA as soon as I figure out how to configure our little 10’ by 11’ studio/listening/guestroom with their various Expedit component pieces.
They only come out 15” from the wall, so I’m going wide and tall. Wink

Man! Looks like he's really done a major overhaul at D&G's. Coolio!

What do you think of that Origin album? I was a little disappointed, compared with Antithesis.

I really like it actually. They changed it up a bit but it still sounds like Origin. i like that some grind influence got in there. I also really like some of the stuff they had really frantic guitar lines over top drum beats that are grooving. There is one in particular where the guitar is doing these sweeping arpeggios with the drum grooving on the cymbals and snare while doing really fast double bass, I love it! The song with the angular guitar riffs and whammy pedal is really great too.
Don't get me wrong, I love Antithesis. That album blew my mind. I think Entity holds up though.

A couple of cool blogs/articles re: turntable maintenance and selection. Some of the info is obviously DJ-centric, but still an interesting read for any vinyl enthusiast:

Very Happy Awesome! It's great to find little know gems like that. I was actually just listening to a Lard album on my Technics SL-1700 and just thinking how clear it sounded. Once you set it up right, the thing sounds awesome!

While on vacay in August, I looked in a bunch of antique shops and thrift stores. A few interesting LP possibilities, but I passed because they weren't too odd or "must haves." I was about to give up, on my last round through the last shop (I had already seen the obligatory Jim Nabors, Herb Alpert, and Mantovanni records), when I found a box of 45's in a different section of the store. This was it! Some scratchy, but most in decent shape-- Elvis, Little Richard, Benny Goodman, Ricky Nelson, Kitty Wells, and a bunch more country and rock-a-billy. The best was a good condition Carl Perkins on Sun records. Not a huge find to a real record collector, but I didn't have any real Sun sides in my collection on 45 (everything I have like that is on CD comps and such). Anyway, I was very happy-- 18 45's for $3!!!! One on an actual original issue Sun label in decent condition.
Best three bucks I spent all summer...

I like this guys idea of using grooved wood frame-molding for display, and/or keeping vinyl thats in your own heavy rotation handy and out of harms way. Way easier than opening up those frames when you want to spin one.
