|
|
Hi,
I'm considering replacing my UA Solo 610 and Focusrite ISA One with one rackmount preamp.
The main reason why I am thinking about doing this is because I would like a rackmountable preamp to make my work surface cleaner. This is not because of the sonics of these pres.
I also own a Focusrite Liquid Channel which I've been really happy with so far.
I have been very pleased with both of these pres and have made some excellent recordings with them but don't want two pres on my desktop due to lack of space.
What would you recommend?
Thanks |

why not a UA 6176, that way you keep the 610 and add an 1176 comp/limiter. _________________ www.marktobik.com

| I've basically got a very small room with a 4u rack on my desk. 2u of the rack is the Liquid Channel and another 1u is my Saffire interface and headphone amp. I would ideally like something for the other 1u. |

New 8RU Rack + Shelf = $150 or so? (will be taller than your 4RU, but not any wider or deeper)
New 2 CH Rackmount Preamp of equal quality to what you currently have? $1500 and up. Plus the hassle of selling your old preamps (for a $ loss unless you bought them used in the first place).

Yeah I hear what you guys are saying!
The 4u rack that I have is built into a diy desk I had made for here.
I'm definitely not against keeping my 610 and ISA One!! I was simply wondering if there is anything that would be a good 1u alternative to having two desktop pres.
I have considered the A-Designs 500HR rack and putting in a couple of really contrasting pres such as the Forssell and maybe a BAE Neve or API type pre?
Or, something like the Grace M101 and GreatRiver NE1-NV? |

Ah - was not aware the 4RU was integral to the desk.
The 1RU suggestions you already have are all great solutions IMO. 500 format will indeed open up your possibilities and allow you to swap one channel at a time to find your ideal pair.
I've got an older Grace 101 - It is a nice clean unit - but not "exciting" at all if that's what you are looking for. I'd opt for a 1RU 500 Rack over two 1/2RU units...
Best luck! _________________ Randy V.

If it ain't broke....
If you're sonically happy with the gear you've got, my recommendation would be to find a way to set up the ergonomics in a way you're happy with as opposed to replacing gear you're into into with new stuff. |

As a user, a addict even, I suspect you'll go thru serious withdrawal if ya cold-turkey yer ISA1. _________________ vlayman; THD; blog; TFP |
