Yes it's true....and I guess I too get to document the trials and tribulations of making a new space.

Meeting with contractor today to design window security system.
Bought grey deck paint and primer
last night for the floor.

As soon as the window is secure and the floor is dry I'm packing up and moving all the gear.

One open room Lanois style setup [no headphones maybe??]

Amazing tiled bathroom/echo chamber across the hall. [looking for 100 ft cables to run a P/A speaker and mic when I need reverb] I can also use the huge hallways for distance micing/reamping
]

Going to keep things simple and not do any build out. Just treatments
and rugs.
Not sure if I should take out the ceiling tiles..the ceiling looks a bit messy but maybe I'll do it over where the drums will be?? gives it about an extra foot and a half of height [ up to around 13 ft.]

At least peek up beyond the tiles and see what you have up there. They typically conceal a multitude of sins. Looks like a nice size space.

some of the tiles are missing at the other end and it goes up at least 2 more feet. and the ceiling has those old school pegboard looking acoustical tiles...
but there's pipes up there and the ceiling looks crappy so I may just leave things as is
because it looks so much neater and finished.

Painting the floor tomorrow after the security gates go in..

Moving in on thursday...

picking up the console on Friday!

I guess I have to post them in facebook first..

there's at least 30" of extra height but landlord said I can't take the drop ceiling frame down bit I can remove the tiles ceiling is already around 11 ft
Do you guys think this will make a big difference?

Looked up there and in 95% of the ceiling is not too bad except over the mixing console
I'll probably just put a cloud up there
Put some frosted paper in the windows
Put custom made security bars with an escape door.
Painted the floors /battleship grey
Installed the internet cable modem
long ass day

I'd keep the ceiling grid, and turn it into acoustic treatment. You can get real Ceiling Tiles designed for music rooms, or use the grid to build DIY tiles to stuff in there. If you do it right you can turn the entire ceiling into a bass trap, and also selectively absorb high frequencies in appropriate spots:

What's your treatment strategy for the space?

So far I have 2 - 24x48x4 bass traps for a height of 8ft in the 2 front corners
1x24x48 absorber at each first reflection point.
Monitors are 4ft from the front wall/window and 4 feet from the mix position which
is approx 1/3rd into the room.
Room is 15x30x12high [pretty much exactly Hitsville live room dimensions!
I'm not hearing any problems and it sounds much better than what I had before
[the room had 9ft ceilings and was 11x16]
Do you know the name of the company that makes acoustical ceiling tiles??

I'm making gobos for the different areas to cut the bleed a little [going old school] I'm putting different wood panels on the [masonry ] walls for an overall warmer sound.
Each area will have a small rug on the wood floor

Getting really busy....the non-stop kind of work that I love..

Anyway I pulled a powered pa speaker into the tiled bathroom and recorded snare and then vocals...the room by itself has a long reverb and sounds cool. so Im going to try the entry way which seems a little smoother and then the stairwell at the end of the hall..I'll post examples
