I would personally go with a tape-based Space Echo. The tape is easily available and I see RE-201 Space Echoes on the bay all of the time. Last week one went for $500+/- and it looked like it was brand spankin' new. It had me drooling.

Yeah I know it's no space echo....but I've seen these go for about a hundred bucks.
They come up every once in a while, and there's not much info out there about them.
I'm interested analog effects...delay,chorus,phase,reverb,flange...
anyone have any experience with these things?
Thanks,
Harry |

I have heard wonderful things about the old Ibanez analog rack mount delays like the DM1000 and such. i have no personal experience with em except for rember using them in the 80's as a kid and thought they were awesome but very expensive back then (of course back then I thought the Rockman was awesome..haha). Now they go for about $100 or less on Fleabay. I hear they have alot of the famous chips (something like 8 or nine of em) of them that DIY'ers like. But just recently people have been talkin about em as being great thing for cheap
I still wanna get one, just cause they are cheap and look fun. _________________ me make purty musick! |

I've been wanting one of these boxes forever. They are very cool. Junior Brown uses one, so it must rock.
They're just really good analog delays that are a step up from the Boss pedals. I believe you can use them at line level. I'd probably pay $150 for one if I saw one.
Besides those, I would really keep an eye out for the old Ibanez AD202 and the Yamaha E1010 analog delays if you want the ultimate.

| I wonder what a real tape echo sounds like on 1 inch tape reels. |

| Rodgre, what delay is a step up from the boss? The one Junior Brown uses? |

I had the Roland version of that...and it was just OK, in my opinion. I sold it. I like the Memory Man better for guitar, and I eventually saved up and got an SRE-555 for the rack, which is freaking marvelous in every conceivable way. _________________ New album out now! clicky |

The E1010 underwhelmed me...dark, noisy, and, well, not very atmospheric or "creamy". AD202 and Memory Man are both better for guitar. Best is a tape delay. An echoplex into a Fender is sweeeet. _________________ "What you're saying is, unlike all the other writers, if it was really new, you'd know it was new when you heard it, and you'd love it. I have had a Boss DM100 for many years. It is a great machine. Short sharp slap backs or long slow murky echoes that are a great alternative to reverb on a vocal. Excellent for dubs and feedback too. Heres a link I just found that has some samples.
