Funny that article doesn't mention the security guard who came up the stairs and out into the hallway just as Hal Blaine was "going for it." Apparently, the guy fell to the floor, thinking that he had just walked in on some burglars who fired a gun at him. That's the story that Hal Blaine tells, anyway. I think it's great.

In my 8 track days I used to use the "wild tracking" idea to fly in guitar solos and other short elements from a separate 2 track reel to reel during mixdown (inspired by another article I'd read about making this record). I can attest to how crazy hard it is. I felt like superman when it worked. It really brings home the idea of mixing as performance.
In a similar vein, you can hear Lee Scratch Perry pulling from the same bag of tricks all over the "Heart Of The Congos" record. _________________ Dave

I love the Bridge Over Troubled Water album, great songs and great recordings. Only Living Boy in NY is one of my all time favs. _________________ "Politics are like sports, where all the teams suck" |
