Hawaiian surf music...

Post by DUC » Tue Jun 03, 2003 5:12 pm

I've been listening to random surf music on the net... some which sound more Hawaiian than surf, and I'd like to find some good records. Any suggestions?

I like the minimalist, sorta' Echoplex surf music. It has a creepy jangle about it.

Dick Dale or The Ventures...

period.

Dick Dale is the king of surf music, the ventrues were like the beetles of surf music.

there's a whole slew of others, but that's where you should start.

Check the playlist for Phil Dirt's show on kfjc (San Francisco peninsula / Silicon Valley area); I'm sure it can be found somewhere in http://www.kfjc.org/. His show runs (IIRC) 6-9PM Pacific time on saturday night.
