Hello fellow tape oppers,
I have an old AKG D1000E. Although it works, it has some issues. It sounds similar to the "telephone effect" people want on their songs. In addition, at high SPL, it just gives nasty distortion.
I use this mic for special vocal effects (lower spl), so all is not lost. However, I'm wondering if this is a common issue for dynamic mics, and if the fix could be easy. I'm pretty handy when it comes to fixing things, but I've never had to work on a dynamic mic, and wouldn't know where to start looking.
Any input would be helpful. |

Sounds to me like either something's pushing against the diaphragm, or the glue holding the diaphragm on has come loose. It doesn't sound like a wiring issue. _________________ my new record:

No, that's not standard with the D1000E or dynamic mikes in general.
I'd open it up carefully and see if anything is obviously out-of-whack.

I have one of those. I have other AKG's and have had to repair them. Most, if not all have inside the sintered wind-screen a foam that rots, but is easily cleaned away and replaced (or not).
I believe at least one model had a piece of tight nylon mesh that was held in by the foam.
FWIW, I have also re-wired at least one AKG and got lucky and it worked (my record is only 2/3 on SM57's, tho', and 0/1 on EV Slimaires). _________________ vlayman; THD; blog; TFP |
