Neatness and order.
I'm sort of OCD about my room being as neat and tidy as it can be. Really OCD, actually--I just can't work (or think) in chaos. My chaos threshold is pretty low, too. Just wondering what any fellow neat-freaks like to do to maintain order in what can get to be a messy environment. I'm just trolling for ideas of any and all kinds. Cable storage? Hiding cable runs? Inexpensive DIY cable ladders for racks? Just have a drink/smoke/drug-of-choice and not worry so damn much?

I like to have as much storage as possible to keep things organized and out of sight.
IKEA MALM drawers and SCUBB drawer organizers helped my humble abode!

Still can't keep the place clean - and like Nick hinted at - Creative Types generally work well in the cozy chaos of a functional mess As long as you know where everything is - embrace it

PS - I also made a few of my own "Snakes" for the wire-bundles that are fairly permanent using TechFlex "PET" from Markertek. It really gives a nice finished look, and prevents wires from getting snagged under equipment or otherwise "pinched". Lots of simlar products do this, too:

I used this for some Dual ADAT + MIDI + BNC Wordclock bundles to the slave DAW's and to the V-Drums. Looks pretty slick IMO (the little of it that's actually visible!)

i like to keep my room clean...if i have an attended session i always tidy up beforehand....but if it's just me, which it usually is, things can get messy. my solution is to just keep the mess towards the back of the room, so i can't see it whilst working.

I've become very interested in this topic recently. My brother in law is involved in the contemporary art world and we've had a lot of interesting conversations about artists and their "studio practice." The issue of moving forward creatively with nebulous pursuits (which, I think, music often is) is a big one, so having a method that helps you is a big deal. Anyhow, as a disorganized musician with a tendency toward chaos, it's becoming a big deal to me!
There's a good video on the topic made by an artist named Tom Sachs...it's here:

And here's my favorite excerpt from said video:
