Hi my name is Paul,
This is something that my friend and I just launched:http://stage.studiofilter.com/
Studio Filter is a search engine dedicated to music studios.
An example search: SSL G in NYC - you get the idea. (Check out the advanced search page for more possibilities).
Profiles are free.
I am a freelance engineer/producer, musician, and studio owner in NYC (Metaphonic). I hope this helps to better serve these communities.
We need your support and engagement to make this work.
There's a shout out to Tape Op on Studio Filer - I am a big fan.
I was just at AES trying to show it to anybody that would listen - Thank you Larry!
Please give http://stage.studiofilter.com/ a spin and help get the word out if you think it is a good thing.
Thanks!

Yeah, I noticed that. It's a nice layout. My only problem with it is that there are numerous studios listed that have been closed for many years. Clinton Recording, for instance, has been closed for 2 years and shows up on the front page for me. I've even seen studios listed that have been closed for about a decade or more
The UK seems to have a pretty good directory called "All Studios." But the directory in the US that I'm partial to is SonicSearch. It was launched by SonicScoop about a week before Studio Filter came out. It's currently in open beta and allows both individuals and studios to create their own listings.
Of course, I'm biased: I write an article a week for SonicScoop. (But I wouldn't be if I didn't think it was great!) I'd bank on SonicSearch becoming a pretty meaningful force in the community pretty quick. And there's a lot of features that I can't talk about yet that I'm really excited about. It's growing every day and openly soliciting feedback.
We'll see how everything develops. But with more than 50,000 readers a month at SonicScoop and whole bunch of interactive features in the directory, the community is already there. Seems like they have a leg up on that front. But Studio Filter is nice too! I like the built-in maps. A cute design for sure. I could see finding some value in both. _________________ Justin Colletti

It's all good! Hope the project works out well...

^^^^^^yep
and as a side note, Canada doesn't seem to exist as far as your site is concerned. When I search for Toronto I get a Google map of the US side of lake Erie. Jesus, it's not even the right lake.
I gave it a shot but my listing doesn't show up even when I search for it by name. Canada gets 0 search results.
I'm pretty sure we're up here...... somewhere.............hopefully. _________________ Dave

Hey - sorry for the delay in getting back to this. We are dealing with some Sandy related issues here in NYC.
The issue of new studios indexing not being indexed has been resolved. New data is indexed by http://studiofilter.com/ every two hours, so give it a little time to show up in searches.
Dave - sorry for the inconvenience.
Justin - I was "shocked" to see Sonic Search go up the week before we launched, I couldn't believe it. I'm a big fan of your writing. I think http://studiofilter.com/ would make a great story for http://trustmeimascientist.com/
"Legacy" studios such as Clinton and others will gradually disappear with time as our database grows and is refined and updated by new users.
Thanks for the feedback!

I take it all back! Issues resolved and Canada recognized. Sorry for being testy, we sometimes feel overlooked up here.
Many thanks. _________________ Dave

Thanks Dave!
I'm looking forward to more of our Canadian brethren getting on board.
