Explain this to me.

I understand the concept of tribute bands, what I feel are worse than cover bands (altho' I recall Stones and Doors tribute bands existing in the early 80's).

But these guys have a 2 hour special on PBS, Brit Floyd Live at Red Rocks, like they are U2 or sompin'.

WTF?

If Pink Floyd was good weed, Brit Floyd has gotta be like drinking bong water.

something as perfect as that show means it must be sponsored by Disney...

ona related note, my wife saw Foreigner about a year ago except that Mick Jones was out sick so they had a sub on guitar. Which meant she was watching a cover band because he was the only original member that was touring... and she said they were the best band of the night!

So I wartched a cuppla songs last night around 1 AM with a half a bottle of red under my belt - pretty spot-on soundwise, big band with 3 female back-up singers, light show, a crowd of swooning sing-a-long 12-66 y.o.'s.

PBS was selling tickets for US$75 and you get the DVD.

Tickets apparently go US$30-50.

I wonder if they'll need a new guitarist or bassist soon?

went to the in-laws on xmas.

father in law was so excited to show me the brit floyd pbs special.

i went back last night, and brought the '94 pulse dvd.

it's odd to me that people dedicate their entire lives to emulating another musician. I mean, covers can be rad, and tribute shows are cool.....but a tribute band just feels sad.

...that being said Brit Floyd does a good job of emulating the worst of Pink Floyd, when Roger Waters left.

Probably saw about 20 episodes there, but never a good one.

He watched Ed Sullivan, too (this was 10 miles north of the Mex border in SE Texas in the mid-late 90's) but not the Stones nor Beatles nor Doors was ever a episode.

He probably would have turned 'em off, anyway.

A friend of mine tried to get me to go see a Floys tribute band a few years ago. I was like, "Why? I've seen both Floyd and Roger Waters twice." I really don't get this current fascination.

When I was in college, not only did we hafta hear Dark Side at nearly every party, but every frat-house cranked the alarm clock on "Time" on Saturday mornings, usually just when I was getting to sleep ...

Because of the inundation back in the early 80's, to this day I can't stand PF or Yes or Supertramp or REO for a casual listen, even if I can appreciate the musicality.

Not, of course, speaking of Sorry-O Shitewagon.
