Ceiling cloud how close to ceiling
I know where to place the cloud, just having a hard time finding how close to ceiling to hang it.
Got all my parts together and am ready to rock.....just have to put butterfly/molly into the ceiling and hang chain down....
ceiling is 10.5 ft

For mix position, or over the drums?
For mix position I always thought you wanted it as far away from the ceiling as its thickness, but there are far more knowledgeable people here to answer that question. If it is definitively answerable.
Check out 2:20 in this video for a drum cloud idea...

Yeah, I'm sure someone here knows a measurement formula for your room dimensions and ceiling height. We don't have one, but I've always seen them (or guessed that they seemed to be) about 1/3 to 1/4 of total room height; does that sound right? If I was eye-balling it, that's where I'd start, and then see (hear) what effect that had.
Where is Judas Jetski? I've seen his cloud in-person, but I don't have measurements (and it is not white).

Fuzz,
You can hang your trap up to 2.5 times the thickness of the trap from the ceiling. This usually works best because you get that 'extra' trapping effect.
Cheers,
John

So I hung it about 10-11 inches from ceiling [it was a real bitch to hang]
And I can hear a difference...certainly tightened up bass and clarified image..

- Works every time.
Fuzz, do you have Room EQ Wizard? http://www.hometheatershack.com/roomeq/
Do some testing and fine tune now. See what your room decay is (RT-60) & check for early reflections with the ETC function.
Cheers,
John

It is a great thing to have above your drums too. Imaging improves a lot.supafuzz wrote:So I hung it about 10-11 inches from ceiling [it was a real bitch to hang]

found this new material similar to 703 that's half the price...I'll find the name and post it. It is mineral wool and fire rated...
But that's a good next project...the 1970 Premier kit sounds fantastic to begin with
and maybe I can do the Eric Valentine trick where you raise and lower the cloud.
