1/2" Tape and a single mic

Post by Chuck Cheesman » Mon Feb 09, 2015 1:11 pm

I got into Fremont Recording here in Portland OR on Friday to help Brud try out and demo his new old Otari MX5050 Tape Machine. It's just one great, old Neumann U47 set in the right spot. EQ is flat and he added a bit of reverb. Mic placement was really the only thing we fussed with.

At home I use a Neuman KM184 on the guitar and an AKG414 on my voice, with some bleed happening but not much worry. Working with one nice mic to tape is fun and even easier. I like the tone of the signal chain here, and I'm thinking we might record my next album to this machine.

Thanks for watching/listening.
