Gotta brag- I recorded Pete Townshend directly to vinyl!

sorry- i just GOTTA brag on this!

Pete came to my studio (Welcome To 1979) in Nashville for a few days last week- we cut several songs on tape, and one directly to vinyl. he's going to auction it off for his Teen Cancer America charity- check out the vid link to see him talk about it, he even plays the record we did!

I heard about this on their tour blog. I think this was because he had a couple of days of down time because of Roger Daltrey's throat trouble.

I will say this, I get the feeling that Pete is probably deaf as a fence post these days, you can tell when he sings on stage -- he's basically just monotone yelling at this point. But somebody who goes into the studio to play guitar, ON HIS DAY OFF, at his age, and throws down for charity -- I got to really hand it to him.

Cool!

Dad-gum Chris, congratulations to you and Mari and all at Welcome to 1979 too! That is awesomely cool and exciting, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer (or more appropriately prepared) guy...

PS-- I'm not sure Pete has ever sung any other way. I was humming along with "... I was bourn with a plax-stik spoo-hun in my-hee mowwwwth..." at GC today.

wow
just wow

I don't think I would be able to do a session with an idol like Pete
If I ever got the chance to work with Pete or Elvis Costello I think I would have too many questions and be too much of a fan to work

congrats

Wow squared - no, cubed! No - wow to the fourth power!

Congrats! You've earned the right to brag.

hey guys-

thanks so much for the kind words. it IS truly inspiring to work with someone like Pete who comes in on his days off (of a very hectic tour) and rocks it.

yes, he can still hear- lots of good pointers on eq and compression from him.

session guys were on it- Greg Morrow (drums) Michael Rhodes (bass) and Billy Livsey (keys).

I was lucky enough to engineer (on a Mara Machines MCI 2" 8 track!) with Jane Howard assisting. Cameron Henry was the lathe operator for the Direct To Disc.

it's one for the record books for sure.
